Church Membership
Discover what it means to be a covenant member of Heritage Baptist Church and how you can take the next step.
What is Church Membership?
Church membership is a formal commitment between a believer and a local congregation. At Heritage Baptist Church, membership is not merely about attending services — it is a covenant relationship in which you identify with our body, submit to our leadership, and commit to the spiritual growth and accountability of one another.
The New Testament presents the local church as the primary community of believers through which Christians are discipled, encouraged, and equipped for service. Membership is how we live that out in a tangible, committed way.
Scripture calls us to "not forsake the assembling of ourselves together" (Hebrews 10:25) and to "submit to those who rule over you, and be submissive" (Hebrews 13:17). Church membership is the structure through which these commands are fulfilled.
Why Membership Matters
Membership reflects biblical principles that have shaped healthy churches for centuries.
Identity
Membership gives visible expression to your union with the Body of Christ. It is a public declaration that you belong to this local assembly (Acts 2:41–42; Romans 12:4–5).
Discipleship
Members are plugged into the discipleship rhythms of the church — Sunday worship, Bible study, small groups, and one-on-one mentoring (Matthew 28:19–20; 2 Timothy 2:2).
Service
Members are encouraged to discover and use their spiritual gifts for the building up of the Body (1 Corinthians 12:4–7; Ephesians 4:11–12).
Pastoral Care
Members receive the care, shepherding, and oversight of our elders and deacons who are committed to your spiritual well-being (1 Peter 5:1–4; Hebrews 13:17).
Mission
Members partner together in advancing the gospel locally and globally, sharing in the Great Commission as a unified body (Acts 1:8; Philippians 1:5).
Accountability
Membership creates a community of mutual accountability where believers encourage and challenge one another toward Christlikeness (Galatians 6:1–2; Hebrews 3:13).
Membership Requirements
To become a member of Heritage Baptist Church, candidates are expected to meet the following requirements:

We practice believer's baptism by immersion as a public testimony of your faith and identification with Christ (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3–4).
